In OUr CLassroom!

Here you will find some of the lessons we will be working on this week! This information can be useful for helping parents connect to what students are working on in the classroom each week.

Social Studies

This week we are going to be covering the 7 continents and the 5 oceans

This is always such a blast to work on. The students really love learning and discovering more about the world we live in.

We will be discussing each continent this week and things that are unique to that continent. We will also cover the oceans. All while making this globe made out of a paper plate!
This video to the right is great to help the students memorize the globe!

Continents and Oceans

Science

EXperiments!

I cannot get enough of these great experiments we have been doing lately. Keeping up with the water theme this week we are going to observe what happens or what doesn't happen when oil and water get together!

We are going to fill a bottle with water, food coloring, and oil. We then are going to observe what happens. After that we will shake it up and watch to see if there are any changes! After, we will let it sit for a few minutes and watch for any changes.

We will write about all of our observations on our Water and Oil Observation Sheet for our SCIENCE JOURNAL!

This game is very fun and great practice for children to learn what will sink or float. It is a free app that can be added to any apple device.

If you do not have access to an apple device this is a fun game also!

Math

Gumball Math!

I think this week math is going to be a big hit! I can't wait. We are going to be using pom poms as gumballs to put in our very own gumball machine. Then we will count how many of each color that we have. We will use these numbers to make addition and subtraction problems. Fun right?

Remember this site is great for getting in some extra practice!

We will be making "RETELLING ROPES"

These are so much fun! I think the hands-on aspect of the elements of a story is going to be fantastic help for these kiddos to learn this process!

Here is the Breakdown:
         i.      Setting- The time and place

ii.      Characters- The people or animals who act out the story

iii.      Problem- The struggle the character is having

iv.      Happenings- The events, beginning, middle, end

        v.      Solution- How the story was “tied up”

This week practice telling each other stories and then discussing the elements of these stories!

Here is a great Website if you have time to go and check it out!
